Petri Komulainen has studied conducting at the Helsinki Conservatory and at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He completed his studies at the wind orchestra conducting class with the highest marks in 2005. From autumn 2004 untill spring 2007 Komulainen studied under the guidance of Prof. Leif Segerstam at the masters programme of the symphony orchestra conducting class. He did his conducting diploma with the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra with highest marks in February 2007. Komulainen has also participated in master classes by Prof. Jorma Panula and Esa-Pekka Salonen.Petri Komulainen won the third prize in the International Jorma Panula Conducting Competition in November 2006.
Komulainen has conducted numerous Finnish orchestras including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Kymi Sinfonietta, Pori Sinfonietta, Mikkeli City Orchestra and Zagros Ensemble. He has been assisting many conductors and has conducted Tauno Pylkkänen´s Sudenmorsian opera in Helsinki and Harri Ahmas´ Käärmesormus in Kajaanin Runoviikot. During this season Mr. Komulainen will conduct the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Mikkeli City Orchestra. Currently Komulainen is the artistic director of the largest Finnish student orchestra the Polytechnic Orchestra (PO). Petri Komulainen is the assistant principal horn of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
