Ville Matvejeff is the new Chief Conductor of Jyväskylä Sinfonia

Ville Matvejeff and Moshe Atzmon appointed as Jyväskylä Sinfonia’s new artistic leaders

Ville Matvejeff has been appointed to Jyväskylä Sinfonia's new Chief Conductor. Moshe Atzmon hasbeen appointed as the orchestra's Principal guest conductor.

Ville Matvejeff (b. 1986), one of the most interesting young Finnish musical talents, works as the Chief Conductor conducting eight concerts per year. Moshe Atzmon is the Principal Guest Conductor conducting four concerts per year. Both have contracts for two years with the option for one extra year. They start their periods at the beginning of 2014.

Jyväskylä Sinfonia became acquainted with Ville Matvejeff for the first time in 2007 when Matvejeff won the third place in Jyväskylä Piano Competition. After that, the orchestra has played his compositions and this spring, Matvejeff conducted Jyväsky-lä Sinfonia for the first time. Exceptionally versatile and wide-ranging artist has worked as Conductor and Head of Coaching at the Malmö Opera in Sweden since the season 2012/2013. Matvejeff is also the founder and Artistic Director of New Generation Opera and Artistic Director of Heinävesi Music Festival. Matvejeff is a passionate opera conductor.  in 2013 he will conduct Jorma Hynninen’s farewell production – Kimmo Hakola’s monologue opera Akseli at Ateneum –, W. A. Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro at Åbo Svenska Teater, Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Hel-sinki Festival and Aribert Reimann’s opera Lear in Malmö. Matvejeff is also a devot-ed chamber and lied musician. He has recently started a partnership with soprano Karita Mattila, and they have performed at Wigmore Hall and in Hong Kong among other prestigious Concert Halls around the world.

Hungarian-Israeli Moshe Atzmon has been Chief Conductor of the NDR symphony orchestra in Hamburg, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and Basel Orchestra Society, for instance. He has also conducted in all the important music centres of the world working with many of the great orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and the major London Or-chestras. Moshe Atzmon conducts actively also in different opera productions and has made many recordings, principally for Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, EMI, and BIS.
